Band Ensembles

Band is an elective course which is open to all students at the 6-12 grade levels. No prior experience or lessons are required, simply an interest in instrumental music. You don't have to know how to play an instrument - we'll teach you!

Middle School students (grades 6-8) are arranged into performance ensembles by grade level. High School students (grades 9-12) are arranged into performance ensembles based on audition. This allows more experienced instrumentalists to explore more difficult pieces, while also welcoming less experienced instrumentalists into the program.

8th Grade students are invited to participate with High School students in the Winter Color Guard and Winter Drum Line co-curricular competing ensembles.

Hudsonville High School Band Ensembles

Concert Band

  • Open to students in all grade levels.
  • Primary to Intermediate difficulty level of music.
  • Offered for course credit each trimester at HHS.

Symphony Band

  • Open to students in grades 10-12.
  • Intermediate to Advanced difficulty level of music.
  • Placement by audition.
  • Offered for course credit 2nd and 3rd trimester at HHS.

Wind Symphony

  • Open to students in grades 10-12.
  • Advanced difficulty level of music.
  • Placement by audition - private instrumental lessons encouraged.
  • Offered for course credit 2nd and 3rd trimester at HHS.

Jazz Band

  • Open to students in all grade levels.
  • Intermediate to Advanced difficulty level of music, narrowed to the jazz genre.
  • Placement by audition.

Marching Band (MCBA)

  • Open to students in all grade levels.
  • Intermediate to Advanced difficulty level of music and drill.
  • Competes statewide on Saturdays in the Michigan Competing Band Association (MCBA)
  • Marches at Home Football games, and performs a fall concert.
  • Requires commitment to extra-curricular summer/fall rehearsals and conditioning.
  • Offered for course credit 1st trimester at HHS.

Pep Band

  • Open to students in all grade levels.
  • Primary to Intermediate difficulty level of music, narrowed to the pop/rock genre.
  • All volunteer co-curricular ensemble.

Winter Drum Line (MCGC)

  • Open to students in all grade 8-12.
  • Intermediate to Advanced difficulty level of music and drill.
  • Competes statewide on Saturdays in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit (MCGC)
  • Requires commitment to extra-curricular winter rehearsals and conditioning.
  • All volunteer co-curricular ensemble.

  • Open to students in all grade 8-12.
  • Intermediate to Advanced difficulty level of drill.
  • Competes statewide on Saturdays in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit (MCGC)
  • Requires commitment to extra-curricular winter rehearsals and conditioning.
