Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

Hudsonville Public Schools uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to ensure every student receives the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support they need to succeed.

MTSS is a comprehensive framework that helps schools identify student needs early, provide appropriate support, and monitor progress over time. Through a team-based, data-informed approach, Hudsonville's staff work together to support the whole child.

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework schools use to ensure every student receives the support they need to succeed. All students begin with Tier 1, which is high-quality instruction and support in the regular classroom. If a student needs additional help, Tier 2 provides targeted support, often in small groups, to strengthen specific academic or behavioral skills. For students who need more intensive support, Tier 3 offers individualized interventions tailored to their needs. Students always continue receiving Tier 1 instruction, and additional supports are added based on data and progress to ensure each child receives the right level of support at the right time.

Each level of our MTSS framework is supported by a team of educators to ensure every student receives the right level of support. At Tier 1, each school’s Guiding Coalition sets and monitors goals based on student data. At Tiers 2 and 3, grade level and department teams use student data to identify needs and provide more targeted support for students who require additional help.

This system allows us to respond quickly to student needs and adjust support as they grow. Our goal is to ensure every student is supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to succeed. By working together and using data to guide our decisions, we are able to provide timely, effective support so all students can reach their full potential.
