Looking Ahead

Hi BMS families,

In science we are beginning a ramp and marble lab to introduce our students to scientfic practices. According to the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), "Science and Engineering Practices describe what scientists do to investigate the natural world and what engineers do to design and build systems." These practices include:

1. Asking questions (for science) and defining problems (for engineering)

2. Developing and using models

3. Planning and carrying out investigations

4. Analyzing and interpreting data

5. Using mathematics and computational thinking

6. Constructing explanations (for science) and designing solutions (for engineering)

7. Engaging in argument from evidence

8. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information

I am looking forward to watching our students grow into young adults as the year progresses. Please keep having conversations with your child about being prepared each day for class, arriving on time, and completing all assignments. These "little things" always add up to developing successful habits of mind to flourish in middle school.
